One of the famous and best R&B singer-writer is Tevin Jermond Campbell. He was born in November 12, 1976 at Waxahachie, Texas, California. He was first introduced to the R&B industry by Quincy Jones in August 1989. And during 1990s, he achieved a cord of R&B hits. He is best known for his excellent R&B singing approach; he transitioned from kid vocalist to mature R&B crooner.
In 1989, Tevin’s debut single titled, “Tomorrow (A better You, better ME)” was release in an album “Back on the Block.” this single became a hit and even ranked number 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the month of June of 1990. Then, it was followed by another solo hit “Round and round,” which reached the third spot on the charts of R&B in 1991.
After achieving a big wave of success from his couple of singles, Tevin Campbell released hi debut album under the title of “T.E.V.I.N” in 1991. And on October 1993, another album of his was released with the title “I’m Ready.” It was then followed by Campbell’s album, “Back to the World” in 1996. after releasing successful single from his respective album, Campbell then decided to compile some of his best singles and include in his compilation album “The Best of Tevin Campbell” on January 30, 2001.
And last year, Tevin Campbell, Jonny Gill, Trey Songz, and Tyrese took part in the Black Entertainment Television Awards. on the said show, he performed to pay tribute to R&B band O’Jays.
During 1990, Campbell appeared as guest in an American TV sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” after 9 years, hemade another guest appearance to another sitcom title “Moesha” together with R&B star Brandy Norwood.
Throughout the 90s, Tevin Campbell is a consistent nominee and award winner of some award winning bodies. He has been a consistent nominee of Grammy Awards and American Music Awards, and won 2 awards; Young Artist Awards in 1990 for Favorite new Artist and Soul Train Music Award in 1994 for the Best R&B/Soul Single – Male Category.
